NZB Kiwi Form Guide & Tips
(1) Evaporate (Best Bet – $2.70)
Australian form should stack up nicely, and although Evaporate typically races the other way around, his class should take him close.
It’s not an overly good field from a New Zealand perspective, so Evaporate could take advantage. He was good enough to run in the Cox Plate, so he’s good enough to win at Ellerslie.
(2) Public Attention ($5.50)
He’s another Australian runner coming off a fourth behind Broadsiding, who is one of the best going around. We haven’t seen too much of him, and he’s only a two-time winner, but the ability is there.
We were close to making him the best each-way, so don’t leave out the Written Tycoon colt from NZB Kiwi tips.
(3) Checkmate ($8.00)
His New Zealand form has been solid, but $8 is a touch too short for our liking.
The three-year-old son of Mongolian Khan could eventually become a nice staying type, but we don’t fancy his chances over 1500m.
(4) Penman (Best Roughie – $23.00)
Drawing barrier 13 didn’t help his chances, but he has looked good winning his last three races at the likes of Tauranga and Ellerslie.
Punters get value odds for the son of Contributer, and we’re happy to include him at the price.
(5) Domain Ace ($91.00)
The CJC opted to choose the best-performed runner eligible from their Guineas races and it hasn’t paid off. The result was Domain Ace, who has been terrible since placing in the Guineas.
We can’t see him getting close and he’ll likely be gone on the turn.
(6) Sought After ($35.00)
That was a tough win at Ellerslie last time out, but he would need to improve a few lengths on that effort.
The stable is firing but he would need everything to go right in the run just to finish in the first four.
(7) Perfumist (Best Each Way – $7.50)
Another Australian runner boasting five wins from 10 starts. She lost some admirers when suffering a defeat at Randwick, but she’s still a high-powered filly.
Bjorn Baker has been on a tear lately, winning big races everywhere in Australia, so we can’t leave her out of our NZB Kiwi picks.
(8) Damask Rose ($8.00)
The money was on early for Damask Rose, but she is being treated with caution in betting markets.
The Te Akau-raced filly defeated a tidy field at Ellerslie last time out over 1600m, and he has upside, but is she good enough to win this race?
We’re happy to includer her in first four picks based on her top-level form.
(9) Pivotal Ten ($12.00)
The most interesting runner in the field. Her form in the South Island has been outstanding, but she hasn’t beaten much. However, if she can sustain a high cruising speed, she could win.
Barrier 12 and an inexperienced big-time jockey is a concern, but she could be special, so we’re not leaving her out.
(10) Sethito ($12.00)
The filly by Super Seth will likely be ridden on speed with Sam Spratt riding, and it could be a very quick tempo.
That could be the undoing of her chances, and although she’s a nice filly, there is too much depth in this race to include her in NZB Kiwi predictions.
(11) Ardalio ($41.00)
She owns two wins from four starts, but she didn’t run well enough when sixth at Matamata last time out. That came behind Legarto, but as the odds suggest, she could struggle.
(12) Hankee Alpha ($35.00)
She started her career with two wins and she didn’t get all favours last time out. This is a much harder race, so we’re prepared to put her to the side.
(13) First Dance ($71.00)
We can’t see her going close enough based on recent form, including a fifth at Matamata last time out.
(14) Zormella ($41.00)
She got into the field via a scratching, and she’s clearly not a great choice. She comes off a maiden win at Pukekohe, which isn’t a good form guide.
