Port Macquarie racing tips

Race 1. (12:10) John O’Callaghan 50 Years in Radio Maiden (1008m)

#3 – Pratt @ $2.50

Money has come for Pratt, who showed signs of good form last preparation, including a run at Canterbury last start.

The three-year-old gelding by Exceed and Excel has looked good at the trials to prepare for his fresh up effort, including a win at Beaumont.

It could pay to take the odds before late money comes for him.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 2. (12:45) Super Radio Niko C1 (1008m)

#7 – What a Rush @ $5.50

What a Rush broke through for a win at Port Macquarie last start, and she has every chance of kicking on with it.

The two-year-old daughter of Zousain relished the heavy conditions to win at $14 odds, and we’re not surprised by the shorter odds on Monday.

55kg is ideal and she could lead from the outset and win.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (13:20) Dave Sutherland Breakfast Show Maiden (1512m)

#9 – Lune D’excellence @ $2.70

Lune D’excellence didn’t show much on debut when running last at Canterbury, but she improved when running fourth at Newcastle last start.

The three-year-old filly by Puissance de Lune should appreciate this level of racing, and getting the inside draw adds to her appeal.

We’re happy with the current odds, so include her in picks.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 4. (13:55) Friday Sports Talk BM58 (1108m)

#4 – Lord Akomeed @ $4.60

Lord Akomeed has been in excellent form this campaign, including consecutive wins at Taree and Port Macquarie.

The four-year-old son of Akeed Mofeed runs well at Port Macquarie with four starts for a win and two second placings.

Anything near his best should be good enough to run close.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 5. (14:35) Peter Denton in the Newsroom BM58 (1108m)

#5 – Gemologist @ $2.30

Looking to remain unbeaten is Gemologist, who won at Muswellbrook against a small field earlier this month.

The two-year-old son of Graff faces more depth in this field, but the improved track conditions should only help his chances.

His odds have drifted but punters should back him with confidence.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 6. (15:10) Talkin’ Sport Maiden (1208m)

#1 – Vice Regis @ $5.50

Vice Regis has been given plenty of trials to prepare for his debut, including a last-start third placing.

The Matthew Dunn-trained gelding is bred to enjoy racing under his belt, but it’s not an overly hard maiden field, so he could take advantage.

Watch for any late betting moves.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 7. (15:45) Chris Smith Across Australia C2 (1208m)

#6 – Calvary @ $5.00

Running at each-way odds is Calvary, who won fresh up at Murwillumbah last prep before adding two placings to his record.

The three-year-old son of Hellbent owns a win and three placings from five starts overall, so he’s amassing a handy record.

Getting 3kg off his back only adds to his chances.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 8. (16:20) Live and Local Longer BM66 (1512m)

#7 – Yorikiri @ $9.00

Yorikiri likes running at Port Macquarie with eight starts for three wins and three placings, which is an excellent record.

The six-year-old gelding by Mikki Isle has enough experience to handle this field, and he’s not being respected in betting markets.

We’re happy to include him at the current odds.

Stake: 1 Unit
