Sistema Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Return to Conquer (Best Bet – $2.40)
The Te Akau-raced colt is unbeaten after three starts, and he pulled out all the stops when beating He Who Dares last start.
He owns wins at Pukekohe, Ellerslie, and Matamata, and considering his last two wins came at odds of $1.20, getting $2.40 is ideal.
It’s an extremely tough race and he needs to improve, but he has all the makings of a top liner.
(2) He Who Dares ($9.50)
His effort behind Return to Conquer was outstanding, and the very well-bred son of Snitzel x. Rondinella will only improve with time.
Betting holds the key with the Te Akau runners, and although he’s at $9.50, he’s a legitimate first four chance.
(3) Vega For Luck ($17.00)
One of the more experienced juveniles in the field with five starts for a win and three placings.
Second behind La Dorada in the Karaka Million as a $67 chance, and although it was a good effort, he would need to run even better to win.
We’re happy to leave him out at the odds.
(4) Landlock ($35.00)
A debut winner before being well-beaten in three subsequent starts. We can’t see that form being good enough to handle this field.
(5) Curzon Park ($46.00)
The son of Ribchester has yet to win a race from four attempts and we can’t see that changing on Saturday.
It’s an elite field of two-year-olds, and although he has promise, he wants something much easier.
(6) La Dorada (Best Each Way – $3.90)
Boasting three wins from four starts, including the Karaka Million, La Dorada can’t be left out of picks.
$3.90 isn’t exactly an each-way price, but she’s clearly one of the best thoroughbreds in the field and she gets the weight advantage over her stablemates.
A win wouldn’t surprise, and our top two picks are good enough to compete in Australia.
(7) To Cap It All (Best Roughie – $12.00)
Punters should include To Cap It All as a value pick following a solid second placing behind La Dorada.
The filly by Capitalist finished a half-length behind when second, and although the 1200m time wasn’t flash, they went slowly throughout.
She could roll forward and be tough to run down.
(8) Miss Ziggy ($17.00)
Four placings from six starts, including running 1.8 lengths behind Lucy in the Sky. She needs to lift on those efforts, so back her in something much easier than this.
(9) Lucy in the Sky ($9.00)
We’re including Lucy in the Sky in our Sistema Stakes picks. She won on debut at Ellerslie by 1.8 lengths, and it’s unlikely to be her last.
She doesn’t have the experience of some of the favourites, but natural ability could take her close.
(10) Marokopa Falls ($20.00)
A winner on debut for Te Akau but she hasn’t won since. She’s not a bad type but she wants something easier.
(11) Tale of the Gypsy ($35.00)
This would be a sizable upset, hence the odds. Barrier nine makes life harder for her, so we’re happy to leave her out of Sistema Stakes picks.
(12) Lollapalooza ($35.00)
Third on debut at Ellerslie behind Lucy in the Sky, so she needs to show more. She has improvement to come but she’s facing the best juveniles in New Zealand.
