The Ingham Form Guide & Tips
(1) Private Eye ($11.00)
We can’t leave him out based on his recent win, which showcased his tremendous turn-of-foot.
Punters get value odds and there is no reason why he can’t handle the mile.
(2) Gringotts (Best Bet – $3.70)
Gringotts is one of the best going around after posting nine wins from 17 starts, including some big races.
He’s going better than any runner in this field, hence the odds, and he’s good enough to carry the big weight to victory.
(3) Port Lockroy (Best Each Way – $10.00)
He was too good for them at Group 1 level at Ascot, which is a good form guide for The Ingham.
He’s only a three-time winner but he has always had enough class to cope with the pressure at the top level.
The odds are too good to overlook.
(4) Rustic Steel ($34.00)
His win two back was solid at Hawkesbury but we think he’s a step below the best in this field, so we’re not entertained by the odds.
(5) Mighty Ulysses ($46.00)
Barrier 20 doesn’t help his chances and he could find it tough to get a good spot in the field.
We’re prepared to wait to back him under better circumstances.
(6) New Energy (Best Roughie – $17.00)
He was bolting on the turn at Caulfield last start and it took a good ride from Mark Zahra to put them away late.
He doesn’t mind good or wet tracks, and he’s running well enough to be considered at the double-figure odds.
(7) Encap ($41.00)
The four-year-old is dangerous on his day but his day is unlikely to be Saturday. His recent form would need to improve considerably to win.
(8) Lion’s Roar ($126.00)
Triple figure odds and rightfully so. The former Derby winner hasn’t shown up at his last three starts.
(9) Steparty ($21.00)
He showed excellent form at the start of his career before going off the boil, but he has been close to some nice types recently.
54.5kg on his back is enough to see his consistent form turn to winning form, so don’t leave him out.
(10) Lekvarte ($31.00)
She showed an electric turn-of-foot to win three back but her form since has been only fair.
Barrier 23 will see her settle back and she could have too much to do.
(11) Osipenko ($51.00)
His recent form isn’t competitive enough at this level and drawing barrier 24 doesn’t help.
(12) Waterford ($21.00)
He is good enough to win at this level when he’s on his game, and the $21.00 odds are good enough to include in first four picks.
(13) Suparazi ($26.00)
He is at shorter odds than we expected, despite being a consistent runner this preparation.
Improvement is needed to win against this hot field and we can’t see him running well enough.
(14) Xidaki ($31.00)
Not too far away from the prize this season but he’s another runner who could struggle against this level of opposition.
(15) Coastwatch ($91.00)
Disappointing form this season after showing plenty of ability as a youngster. Likely to struggle.
(16) Robusto ($41.00)
Better when second last time out but that was a flash-in-the-pan performance. We can’t see him improving enough to win.
(17) Poison Chalice ($18.00)
He has been well-backed throughout his campaign, and although this race is harder, he could lob in to the minors.
Dropping to 54kg could be enough to see him go close.
(18) Estadio Mestalla ($14.00)
He scored an overdue win at Kembla Grange last start but we need much longer odds to include him in our picks.
(19) Spangler ($51.00)
A solid fresh up effort but we don’t rate him highly enough.
(20) I’mintowin ($9.00)
Running for his third consecutive win after scoring at Rosehill by three lengths last time out.
Facing a steep rise in class but his confidence levels should be high.
(21) Tannhauser ($61.00)
Yet to show much this prep and that’s unlikely to change on Saturday.
(22) Tavi Time ($20.00)
Nominated for an easier race at Randwick on Saturday and that should be the preferred target.
(23) Kerchak ($61.00)
Comes off three wins in lower grades. Can’t see him getting anywhere near them.
(24) Uzziah ($101.00)
At long odds and his run last start was poor. Little chance to win.
