Warrnambool racing tips
—
Race 1. (11:15) John Rule Champion Novice Hurdle (3200m)
#5 – Loft @ $2.70
Loft showed good ability on the flat before winning a maiden hurdle at Warrnambool last time out, and it could be the start of a successful jumping career.
There is more depth to this field, but the winner of over $500,000 has class on his side, and money is starting to come for him.
We expect his natural ability to take him close.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 2. (11:45) The Standard Super Vobis 3YO (1400m)
#2 – King of Enterprise @ $2.45
Money has come for King of Enterprise, who was too good for them when winning at Pakenham by three lengths.
That was a stylish victory for the three-year-old son of Impending, who owns two wins and two placings from six starts.
Having Blake Shinn in the saddle adds to his chances.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 3. (12:15) Tab We’re On BM78 (1100m)
#2 – Cleo Cat @ $2.25
Cleo Cat won her first five career starts before finishing sixth at Geelong behind Romantic Choice last week.
She was only 1.5 lengths behind the winner on that occasion, and she has been primed with a trial win at Terang by five lengths.
She’s speedy, and easier good enough to put this field away over 1100m.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 4. (12:45) Catanach’s Jewellers BM70 (1400m)
#7 – Dane on Tour @ $10.00
We’re sticking with Dane on Tour, who has been threatening to win a race this preparation after numerous placings.
The six-year-old mare by Rebel Dane owns three placings this prep, including a last-start placing at Mornington behind Sirius Statement.
Barrier three is ideal and punters get double-figure odds.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 5. (13:15) Warrnambool Surf Lifesaving Club BM64 (2000m)
#12 – Zibulon @ $41.00
Zibulon is better for two runs under his belt this campaign, and we’re happy to take the risk with him considering the odds.
The five-year-old gelding is only a one-time winner from 10 starts, but that win came only three starts back, and it came over this distance.
He’s an upset threat in an even betting field.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 6. (13:50) Evergreen Turf Neville Wilson BM70 (1700m)
#4 – El James @ $4.20
El James has made a consistent start to his career with three wins and two placings from five starts, including a fresh placing at Warrnambool.
The four-year-old son of Wrote is a two-time winner at the track, and he’s good enough to get back to winning form on Thursday.
Barrier 15 isn’t a concern over 1700m, and Blake Shinn rides.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 7. (14:30) Brandt Grand Annual Steeplechase (5500m)
#4 – Instigator @ $8.50
We love the way Instigator found the line on Tuesday, and although backing up isn’t easy, he’s good enough to achieve the feat.
He got way too far back in the run before flashing home late for third, which suggests he wasn’t tired at the end of 3450m.
Given the odds, we’re happy to include him.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 8. (15:15) Kia Handicap (1400m)
#6 – Alpine Flyer @ $3.80
Alpine Flyer ran well fresh up at Oakbank when finishing second behind Jilladora, which is good form for this level of racing.
The six-year-old mare by Alpine Eagle is a seven-time winner from 24 starts, and getting in with 55kg makes her tough to beat.
We expect money to come for her on race day, so take the $3.80.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 9. (15:55) Sungold Milk Warrnambool Cup (2350m)
#6 – Immediacy @ $2.90
Gunning for consecutive wins is Immediacy, who won by 1.5 lengths at Mornington with a tough effort last start.
The four-year-old son of Tarzino owns four wins from 11 starts, and although it’s a tough field, he’s good enough to put them away.
The $2.90 is a fair price from bookmakers, so take the odds.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 10. (16:30) Grand Events Hire & Styling BM64 (1300m)
#5 – Epice Dieu @ $7.00
We have backed Epice Dieu throughout this preparation, and we’re giving him one more chance on Thursday.
The four-year-old son of Inference went close at Ballarat two back when placing behind Sandwina, and he stuck to his guns last start at Echuca.
