NBL Finals Game 4 Tips
—
Melbourne United vs Illawarra Hawks @ John Cain Arena
With the Hawks losing Game 1 and Game 3 at home, the series heads back to Melbourne with United given the chance to wrap things up.
We predicted United to win the series, but we thought the Hawks would play much better in Game 3 than they did, and with the injury to Trey Kell, that puts their chances of winning on Wednesday in jeopardy.
It was Matthew Dellavedova who led United to victory on Sunday night. His NBA experience showed up, and he could lead them to victory again. He is one of the best all-round players in the NBL, and his experience is something the Hawks don’t have.
The availability to Kell is still unknown, but he won’t be at full health if he plays. However, that hasn’t had much of an effect on NBL betting odds. The Hawks are only $2.28 underdogs on the road, which is a surprising line. We priced them around $2.60 on the road in a must-win scenario.
The pressure is all on the Hawks, and with United playing at home, the $1.63 and –3.5 line is too good to pass up. There is some concern that most of the money has come for the Hawks, but we’re sticking with our guns.
Betting tip: Melbourne United –3.5 @ $1.96
Melbourne United vs Illawarra Hawks Game 4 Prop Picks
One of our best NBL Finals Game 4 props is under 188.5 points. They scored 160 points on Sunday, and we can’t see too many points being scored given what’s on the line.
It should be a tense and defensive affair, so the 188.5 line is overly generous. The Hawks and United scored 202 in Game 2, but that was an anomaly. In two of the three games so far, the total points have gone under 188.5, so we’re locking it in as our best prop bet.
We’re also backing Chris Goulding to have a good scoring effort. He showed up in Game 1 when robbing the Hawks of a win at home, and he loves the big occasions. If Goulding gets hot from outside the three-point line, it could be all over for the Hawks. Include Goulding over in your NBL picks.
Punters get $2.15 for United to lead at halftime and fulltime, which is good shopping. We expect them to win and cover the spread, so we believe they will lead at halftime and never give the Hawks much of a chance to win.
We priced them around $1.97 for this option, so getting $2.15 is a good deal from bookmakers.
Betting tip: Under 188.5 @ $1.90
