NBL Finals Game 5 Tips
—
Illawarra Hawks vs Melbourne United @ WIN Entertainment Centre
Melbourne United had a great chance to win the NBL Championship on Wednesday night, but they failed to beat a rampant Hawks side, who were playing without Trey Kell.
It means the series heads to the fifth and final game on Sunday, and the Hawks are $1.68 favourites to win the title. However, they will be without Sam Froling, who injured himself in Game 4, but they could get Kell back.
It’s a big concern for punters looking to back the Hawks, and for that reason, we’re backing United to prevail on the road. They have played well enough to be crowned 2025 NBL champions, and despite losing Game 4 at home, they have already gone to Illawarra twice in the finals and won both games.
Winning at WIN Entertainment Centre hasn’t proven difficult for United, who have got a big push from Matthew Dellavedova, who has shown why he was a mainstay in the NBA. His scoring and assist numbers are strong, so he could lead the way.
Chris Goulding could also catch fire at any time, so there’s always that threat. Goulding has NBA-level three-point shooting, and if the first one goes in, he usually fills the bucket throughout the game.
Punters get $2.19 for United to steal a road win and lift the title, and we can’t turn down those generous odds. If Kell doesn’t get the go ahead, expect the line for United to move to around $1.80.
Betting tip: Melbourne United @ $2.19
Illawarra Hawks vs Melbourne United Game 5 Prop Picks
We’re backing Dellavedova to have 15+ points in an all-or-nothing game. He knows he needs a big game for United if they’re to win the title, and scoring 15 points or more could be enough to get it done.
He’s a $1.93 chance with bookmakers, which is a fair price for the former Cleveland Cavaliers guard, and that’s much better value than the likes of Ian Clark at $1.48. He also doesn’t mind rebounding, and punters get $1.66 for Dellavedova to record 4+ rebounds, which is worth including in NBL Game 5 multis.
A low-scoring game is expected between teams that scored only 151 points in Game 4, so we’re surprised by the 180.5 line. They scored only 160 points in Game 3 as well, so we think bookmakers have the total points line off.
Punters can cash in, and under 180.5 is one of our more confident bets in what should be a tough defensive battle, especially if Kell doesn’t play for the Hawks. Their scoring will have to come from players who aren’t used to big scoring games.
Betting tip: Under 180.5 @ $1.90
