NBL Playoffs Round 5 Tips

Cairns Taipans vs Sydney Kings @ Cairns Convention Centre
The Kings got the better of the Taipans in Game 1, winning 95-87 in a high-scoring affair at Qudos Bank Arena.
Cairns had the better of them in the first half, but the Kings turned on the jets in the second half to pull clear and take a 1-0 lead.
The NBL’s best regular season team now faces a tough road test and that has been reflected in betting markets. Bookmakers have the Kings $1.82, which is about the best price you’ll ever get the Kings to win a game.
The Taipans have been tough to beat at home and they could provide a stiff test. They have the shooters needed to cope with the Kings, but they need to make their outside shots. Scoring 87 points in losing suggests their defence isn’t up to scratch, so it needs to be better.
A major problem was guarding Xavier Cooks and that’s what we expected. He’s able to get any shot inside the paint and stopping him could prove difficult again.
We think there is good value with the Kings. Winning on the road in a hostile environment isn’t easy, but they are the better team.
Punters won’t get $1.82 for the Kings very often and it’s worth snapping up.

New Zealand Breakers vs Tasmania JackJumpers @ Spark Arena
The Breakers got the better of the JackJumpers in the first game but Tasmania bounced back to win on Thursday night.
The 89-78 victory was a do-or-die situation for the JackJumpers, who defended well but it wasn’t an overly high-quality game.
New Zealand had a chance to wrap up the series but it played poorly down the stretch. It will need to be more focused when returning to Auckland on Sunday afternoon.
Beating the Breakers at Spark Arena has proven difficult. It’s a fortress for the home side and that was evident with their 88-68 Game 1 victory last Sunday.
With a rocking crowd in their favour, we’re backing the Breakers to make the NBL Finals and continue their impressive legacy.
Bookmakers have the Breakers short at $1.33 to win and –6.5 in spread markets. The head-to-head odds are a touch short for our liking, but they should get the job done and it could be another blow-out victory.
Take the Breakers –6.5 for the better value. They are paying $1.94 for this option, so most of the money has come for the JackJumpers with the points. However, given their 20-point win last week, they’re capable of scorching the court and entering the finals with momentum.
