Rugby League World Cup Semi Final Predictions
—
Australia vs New Zealand @ Elland Road
Australia and New Zealand have been the standout teams at the 2022 Rugby World Cup but there can be only one winner on Saturday morning. The Kangaroos have been best-backed with bookmakers at $1.20 to win, but it’s far too short in our opinion. The Kiwis are always tough to beat in tournament play and getting +12.5 points is a crazy line for a team coming off some solid form. There were some reasons to be concerned about the Kiwis when beating Fiji only 24-18, but it looked like they were trying to leave some effort in the tank for an inevitable clash with Australia. The Kangaroos took care of Lebanon 48-4 but this is a completely different game and we think bookmakers have overrated the Australians and underrated New Zealand, especially in points spread markets. We have no qualms with Australia being favoured to win because they’re always favourites. However, we’re happy to take the start with the Kiwis, who could lose by two converted tries and still cover the spread.Look for the likes of Jahrome Hughes and Joseph Manu to wreak havoc and put up some early points on the board.Bet: New Zealand +12.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ BlueBet—
England vs Samoa @ Emirates Stadium
It comes as no surprise to see England listed as the favourite to make the final after destroying Samoa in the opening game of the Rugby League World Cup.There has been a lot of water under the bridge since then, but England has to enter the semifinal with all the confidence in the world, especially after also smashing France, Greece, and Papua New Guinea in three subsequent games.Playing as the host nation is also ideal as England has the crowd behind it, so Samoa has plenty going against it on Sunday. They have improved as the tournament has progressed. The Samoans got the better of Tonga in a close contest to qualify and the 20-18 win should give them confidence, but we don’t think they’re gelling well enough to beat the favourites.Bookmakers have England at $1.35 to win outright and –7.5 in points spread markets. We have little doubt England will be winning and we expect them to cover the spread. It could be close in the first half, but England will warm to the task and piles on the points late.Given the way they have played throughout the tournament, we expect money to come for England on the weekend. The current line could move to around –8.5, which is important when betting on rugby league.Bet: England -7.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ BlueBet
