Carlton vs. Essendon Predictions

Best Bet
We were rewarded for keeping our faith in Essendon last week when it pushed Brisbane awfully close. Despite being behind big early, the Bombers bounced back and took the lead at one point in the second half before losing 90-72.
They covered the whopping +44.5 spread with ease despite missing a lot of tall players, and there’s no reason to jump off their backs against a Carlton team struggling with form. The Blues have lost three of their last four, with the only win coming against St Kilda 77-62.
It’s all about attitude with Essendon, and given its current spot on the AFL ladder, a win would do its playoff chances a world of good.

Same Game Multi
Nate Caddy had a couple of rough games for loyal supporters when scoring one goal in two games, but he bounced back with a double against Brisbane. He is one of their better goal-kicking options and getting $2.30 offsets the short odds we’ve taken with Charlie Curnow.
The Blues forward is almost guaranteed to kick 2+ goals on Sunday. He has 14 goals from his last five games, and although $1.27 is getting in the skinny range, it still boosts AFL same game multi odds enough to include.
Over 162.5 is a generous line from bookmakers. There are some players missing, but that opens the door for players to perform at a higher level. They scored 166 points in their 2024 meeting, and there is no reason to believe they won’t eclipse that total in 2025.

Best Value Bet
Despite starting poorly against Brisbane last week, Essendon could come out firing against a Carlton team playing without confidence.
If the Bombers get an early jump, they could streak away and never be headed. We were tempted to take them halftime/fulltime at better odds, but the safer and better value bet is Essendon to lead at halftime.
Punters get $2.50, which is well worth including in AFL Round 13 picks.
