Our preseason predictions had Hawthorn winning the title, and despite losing its last two games to Gold Coast and Brisbane, we’re sticking with the Hawks.
They struggled offensively last week when losing 93-60 to the champions, but with their backs against the wall, the best way to get back into premiership contention is by beating the top-ranked team. Collingwood is 9-2, but it’s due a loss after three consecutive wins.
The 2024 Hawks won 133-67, and although that came later in the year when they were firing on all cylinders, there is enough talent with the Hawks to spring a surprise result on Friday. We’re backing them at +7.5, and there is also good value with the head-to-head odds of $2.31.

Same Game Multi
We are confident with our goal scoring picks this week, which should boost AFL same game multi odds. Jamie Elliott has been reliable for the Magpies, scoring 18 goals from his last five games, including five goals last week.
That’s an excellent record, and he should have success against Hawthorn. The Hawks counter with many goal scoring threats, who all had no goals last week. That includes Jack Gunston, who was much better prior to that with 13 goals from his previous four games. He should score a double at $1.75 odds.
Over 170.5 is an excellent line. It should be a game with plenty of goals, and they combined for 200 points in their last recent meeting. There is some rain about on Friday, but it should be a 93-87-type scoreline. If the forecast for rain does come, punters should expect the total points line to drop during the week.

Jack Gunston knows how important it is for Hawthorn to get off a positive start. After scoring no goals last week, pressure is on him to perform for the underdogs, and we believe he’ll step up to the plate.
Hawthorn’s midfield only needs to measure up for Gunston to get kicking opportunities, and if he gets one early, he should convert for the opening goal at $11 odds.
