Melbourne vs. Hawthorn Predictions
—
Best Bet
We’re prepared to give Melbourne credit for its three consecutive wins. The Demons started the year slowly, but wins over Fremantle, Richmond, and West Coast have put them back into contention.
However, we can’t see them beating Hawthorn, but it should be a close contest. The Hawks got back to winning form with comfortable wins over West Coast and Richmond, but they were expected to pile on the points against two of the worst teams in the competition.
Boasting a 6-2 record, Hawthorn should be too good for Melbourne, but we expect it to win by around 28-30 points. The $2.08 is a fair price from bookmakers in a game that should be close throughout before Hawthorn pulls away late.
Same Game Multi
We’re including Nick Watson and Bayley Fritsch in our AFL same game multi. Watson scored three goals last week against Richmond, and he should fancy his chances of scoring a double against Melbourne’s defence.
Watson has six goals from his last three games, so he’s averaging two goals per game recently, and punters get a healthy $1.77 for this option. We also like Fritsch to score twice, having kicked two goals in each of his last three games.
He has come alive for Melbourne, and they needed him to. We expect his form to continue against Hawthorn, and the $1.87 odds are well worth including in AFL picks.
Under 170.5 is a good option, considering they combined for 121 points last year. They have recent totals of 121, 147, and 152, so the current line is generous. We would have been happy to take around 160.5 points, and we expect the line to move throughout the week.
Best Value Bet
Punters don’t get massive odds for Trent Rivers 25+ disposals, but he’s a good value pick. Rivers had 25 disposals last week, and he was flourished in Melbourne’s recent wins.
He has amassed totals of 26, 28, and 25, and it’s because Melbourne is playing much better. His form should continue Saturday, so the odds are worth snapping up.
