About BetEasy and their merger with Sportsbet

BetEasy was once again a bookmaker in Australia (as of August 2018) following the sale of CrownBet in February 2018 and the merger of CrownBet and William Hill.

However, in 2020, following the merger of the BetEasy and Sportsbet parent companies – ‘The Stars Group’ and ‘Flutter Entertainment’ – BetEasy was merged into Sportsbet rather than running a dual-brand strategy.

BetEasy was previously owned by James Packer and his Crown Resorts company. Canadian betting giant The Stars Group purchased 62% of the company for $150 million, and it will look to push the legalisation of online poker games in Australia.

BetEasy, and its previous brand BetEzy, have been around in Australia since 2005. Previous Sportsbet owner, Matthew Tripp (betr founder), bought BetEzy in 2014 and rebranded to BetEasy. Months later, BetEasy was purchased by Crown Resorts and rebranded to CrownBet.

BetEasy’s leading technological betting platform separates it from many of its competitors and explains why it makes our list of the best betting sites and apps in Australia.
