Houston Open Tips & Predictions
—
Houston Open Best Bet – Scottie Scheffler
It’s hard to bet against Scottie Scheffler, who comes off his second consecutive Players Championship victory.
The American loves playing in March and April, so this tournament falls into his wheelhouse as he prepares for the Masters in two weeks’ time.
He is the best golfer in the world, and although he has yet to win a PGA Tour tournament in nine of the 12 months of the year, this is the best time to cash on Scheffler.
Unfortunately, he’s at skinny odds of $3.75. However, we expect a lot of money to come for him, and he’s clearly the top pick based on pure talent.
Bet: Scottie Scheffler @ $3.75
Houston Open Best Value – Wyndham Clark
On the second line of betting is Wyndham Clark, who has gone under the radar in golf betting markets for most of the year.
Despite winning the US Open in 2023, Clark hasn’t earned the respect of the sportsbook. However, that changes at the Houston Open following a strong performance at the Players.
He finished T2 behind Scheffler, and he was only a shot behind him. That’s the best form guide for this tournament and getting $12.00 for a player who has won a major more recently than Scheffler is good shopping.
Bet: Wyndham Clark @ $12.00
Houston Open Best Roughie – Will Zalatoris
We’re happy to keep backing Will Zalatoris in his comeback from an injury, and he could bounce back from a disappointing showing at TPC Sawgrass.
The young American didn’t have his best on show, but his form prior included some terrific performances at the Genesis Invitational and Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Despite going through the process of returning from a serious back injury, Zalatoris has shown enough ability to suggest he can beat this field.
His Houston Open odds of $19.00 are worth entertaining, and he should be near the top of the leaderboard on Monday morning.
Bet: Will Zalatoris @ $19.00
Houston Open Top 10 – Beau Hossler
When Beau Hossler left the University of Texas, we thought he left one year too early.
Based on his PGA Tour results, we believe we were right. However, the 29-year-old is long overdue a top showing on the tour.
He has yet to post a PGA Tour win, which is surprising given his talent. He lost the 2018 Houston Open in a playoff to Ian Poulter, and that’s why we’re including him in our golf picks.
He plays well on this course, and getting back to this tournament could see his best golf return after missing the cut at the Players and Valspar Championship.
Take the $5.50 for a top 10 finish, which is excellent value.
Bet: Beau Hossler @ $5.50
Houston Open Top 20 – Akshay Bhatia
Akshay Bhatia finished T17 at the Valspar last week, so he should be a solid top 20 bet again.
The American is still only 22 years old, so he has plenty of time to mature. He won the 2023 Barracuda Championship, and although the field was depleted, it’s still a PGA Tour win.
He was a quality amateur golfer, and he’s good enough to be near the top of the leaderboard at the Houston Open.
Bet: Akshay Bhatia @ $3.30
