Valero Texas Open Best Bet – Rory McIlroy
The Northern Irishman needs to find some form ahead of the biggest tournament of the year at Augusta.
He is the $9.00 favourite, and with good reason, but there’s no doubting that he’s not playing his best golf in 2024.
Despite starting off the year with a win on the DP World Tour, his form on the PGA Tour hasn’t been up to scratch. However, McIlroy has made a living winning at the right time, and he’s looking to produce the goods in Texas this week.
He didn’t play too poorly at the Players but shooting even par in Round 4 ruined his chances. Scottie Scheffler shot –8 on the final day, to put it into perspective.

Canadian Corey Conners might sneak under the radar of many punters, but betting markets haven’t missed him at $23.00.
He is a two-time winner of the Valero Texas Open, with wins coming in 2019 and last year. They were his only two PGA Tour victories, so he’s clearly a fan of TPC San Antonio.
Conners has been in solid form this year, including a T13 finish at the Players, so there’s no reason to leave him off your ticket.
Winning the same tournament three times is rare, but it would make for a good story.

Looking to bounce back after missing the cut last week is Brian Harman, who is a quality player on his day.
The 2023 Open Championship winner has plenty of ability, and he showed that at the Players when finishing T2 behind Scheffler.
The 37-year-old left hander might not be the most popular player on the PGA Tour, but punters must respect his talent, and he always pays good odds.

Ludvig Aberg is the current $3.00 favourite to post a top 10 finish over McIlroy ($3.10), despite being the second favourite to win the tournament.
The Swede played much better in the Players than we expected, so the young talent is clearly here to stay.
We think he has a good tournament at the Valero Texas Open, and it could be a nice pressure relief before heading to Augusta for the first time.
We’re happy with the current odds for Aberg to be on the first page of the PGA Tour leaderboard come Monday morning.

Tommy Fleetwood is one of the more frustrating players to back, but we’re sticking with the Englishman.
For all the talent he has, to not have won on the PGA Tour is a crime. However, he’s usually near the top of the leaderboard, so he’s an excellent top 20 bet.
We’re surprised by the $3.10 odds for a top 20 finish, and although he’s not playing his best golf, the Valero Texas Open is there for the taking.
