Tamworth racing tips
—
Race 1. (12:40) Courthouse Hotel Jardel Cup BM66 (1200m)
#1 – Hellcibell @ $2.05
Hellcibell is a classy customer with three wins from five starts, including a win at Scone last time out.
The four-year-old mare by Hellbent owns two wins over the distance, and only carrying the big weight is against her.
We’re happy to include her in selections.
Race 3. (13:50) Shay Brennan Constructions Plate (1000m)
#3 – Zampano @ $2.45
The two-year-old gelding looked the goods when winning a trial, hence the shortening odds.
He won by 8.8 lengths over 900m, which isn’t easy to do, and that’s why his odds are shortening throughout the week.
Barrier 12 could be offset by his natural speed.
Race 5. (15:05) Brycon Civil C1 (1400m)
#10 – Lonhro’s Queen @ $3.50
Lonhro’s Queen won well at Mudgee last time out, and the three-year-old filly is paying better odds this time around.
The three-year-old filly by Lonhro has been primed with a trial placing at Scone, so that form checks out nicely.
Take the odds before they firm on race day.
Race 7. (16:20) Tamworth City Tamworth Cup (1400m)
#8 – Gringotts @ $3.00
Class is with Gringotts, who owns five wins and five placings from 11 starts.
The four-year-old son of Per Incanto opened at $3.80 before firming, and the odds could get even shorter.
Carrying 54kg makes him awfully tough to beat.

Race 1. (17:15) Frankston Sand Soil & Mix Maiden (1000m)
#2 – Angel Capital @ $3.10
Angel Capital is an expensive $400,000 purchase who ran third in a trial at Cranbourne.
The two-year-old colt by Harry Angel needs some luck from the wide draw, but if that comes, the odds are generous.
We expect her to be well-ridden with Jamie Kah riding.
Race 4. (18:45) Chris Newman Electrics Maiden (2520m)
#4 – Sargeant Mavers @ $3.10
Sargeant Mavers is getting close to a win after consecutive placings, and he’s good enough to win this race.
He might be facing a race winner in Affluential, but he gets all favours off the inside draw, which helps.
We expect him to be right around the mark on Friday night.
Race 5. (19:15) Charlotte & Willow Take Southside BM64 (2520m)
#4 – Upwoods @ $2.50
Upwoods has been a model of consistency throughout his career, including a win and 11 placings.
The four-year-old son of Redwood has yet to race at Cranbourne, but the track should suit his running style.
Getting $2.50 for a runner of his ability is ideal.
Race 6. (19:45) Celebrate Mother’s Day BM64 (1400m)
#8 – Shoeless @ $4.50
Shoeless has been right around the mark this campaign, including a third placing fresh up at Pakenham.
He is a son of Shooting to Win, who gets in nicely on the weights with a 3kg claimer riding, and that bodes well.
Punters get value odds to take on race night.
