Ballarat
—
Race 2. (13:30) Hygain Winners Choice Maiden (1200m)
#10 – Queen of Deels @ $2.20
Queen of Deels comes off consecutive third placings to start her career, so it won’t take her long to win.
The four-year-old mare by Dundeel comes off a placing at Pakenham, which is an excellent form guide for racing at Ballarat.
Dropping in distance is interesting but put her on top.
Race 4. (14:30) Martin Collins BM70 (1500m)
#1 – Red Phantom @ $1.55
Red Phantom looked good when winning consecutive races on this track this preparation before running second at Morphettville.
The Nick Ryan-trained runner gets back to his favourite surface and it should result in a comfortable win against this class.
$1.55 is short, but he should boost payouts.
Race 6. (15:30) Stratum Star @ Ryland BM70 (1000m)
#3 – Rosalia @ $2.25
Rosalia ran second fresh up at Ballarat, so we’re picking her to go one better.
The six-year-old mare by Kuroshio owns four wins and four placings from 15 starts, which is a tidy record at this level.
Dropping 2kg in weight adds to her appeal.
Race 7. (16:00) Sportsbet Loves Ballarat BM64 (2100m)
#4 – Vivideel @ $2.70
Vivideel didn’t fire at Geelong last start, so punters should look at his win at Ballarat as the better form guide.
The four-year-old son of Dundeel won by 1.8 lengths to break maiden grades, so it was a classy performance on the synthetic.
Getting barrier two adds to his appeal.

Coffs Harbour

Race 2. (12:55) Grant Bastian Memorial BM74 (1000m)
#2 – Debussy @ $3.40
Debussy was too smart for them at Grafton last start and we’re sticking with the five-year-old.
He is a three-time winner from 14 starts, and the penny might have dropped with that winning performance last month.
He has been kept fresh and he should be ready to fire.
Race 4. (14:10) Cetnaj Country Magic C2 (1600m)
#1 – Passionate Rebel @ $2.60
Passionate Rebel looked good when scoring consecutive wins at Port Macquarie and Taree earlier this preparation.
If he is anywhere near that level, the four-year-old son of Dissident should be right around the mark.
Most of the early betting money has come for the favourite.
Race 5. (14:50) Toormina Ken Howard Cup (2000m)
#6 – Roller Coaster @ $2.80
Roller Coaster is getting close to winning after consecutive placings, and rising in distance to 2000m is ideal.
The five-year-old gelding by Ocean Park does some of his best racing on soft tracks, so he won’t worry if the rain is about.
Barrier four and 55kg is ideal.
Race 6. (15:25) FM Glenn Daniel Baker Sprint (1200m)
#4 – French Marine @ $5
French Marine goes best fresh up and he could hit the ground running this campaign.
The six-year-old son of Epaulette has yet to race at this track, but he should appreciate this level of racing.
Look for a betting push on race day.
