Belmont Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Seize the Grey (Best Roughie – $9.00)
Seize the Grey won the Preakness Stakes, so he must be considered in the final leg of the Triple Crown.
He is a tough customer, and we’re surprised by the odds available, so don’t leave him out of calculations.
(2) Resilience ($11.00)
He ran sixth in the Kentucky Derby, but suggested this distance could be more his go.
He’s in good hands with William Mott, and there has been some specking for him at the double-figure odds.
We’re happy to include him as a first four pick.
(3) Mystik Dan (Best Each Way – $9.00)
We labelled Mystik Dan as a wet tracker before winning the Kentucky Derby, and we’re happy to back him here.
He ran well enough in the Preakness Stakes when finishing second, and he lost no admirers with the performance.
He’s another runner paying each-way odds with bookmakers.
(4) The Wine Standard ($26.00)
We don’t see running second in the Peter Pan Stakes as a good form guide, despite coming into this race fresh.
The odds tell the story, and he’s unwanted in Belmont Stakes betting.
(5) Antiquarian ($15.00)
He won the Peter Pan Stakes, so he goes in over The Wine Standard, but we don’t want either of them in our selections.
He has the Pletcher/Velazquez combination going for him, and only a strong betting push on Sunday morning would convince us.
(6) Dornoch ($21.00)
Dornoch wasn’t wanted in Derby betting markets, and he ran accordingly for 10th.
We can’t see him improving enough to worry them here, hence the odds.
(7) Protective ($34.00)
Another long shot runner than comes out of the Peter Pan Stakes.
He finished third, so we can’t recommend him on that effort.
(8) Honor Marie ($12.00)
He wasn’t all that far away when running eighth in the Derby, but we expect a little more from him.
However, he’s good enough to bounce back, and we’re not leaving him out of our picks.
Honor Marie will likely sit behind the speed and work into the race approaching the turn.
(9) Sierra Leone (Best Bet – $2.37)
Second in the Derby and unlucky at that. He was hampered by the Japanese runner in the run to the line, and we like that he missed the Preakness.
This is his race to lose, and anything better than $2.00 was always going to be snapped up by punters in early markets.
Chad Brown has every right to be confident with his charge.
(10) Mindframe ($4.33)
Mindframe has been heavily backed, despite having not raced in the big races.
He comes off an allowance claiming win, but it was impressive. Because of the odds, we are including him.
