Bonecrusher Stakes Form Guide & Tips
1. Defibrillate ($8)
Defibrillate showed his class when winning in Australia and that form has stacked up nicely since arriving back in New Zealand.
The eight-year-old has the experience edge over the two favourites and he’s unbeaten in two runs at Pukekohe, so we’re not leaving him out at value odds.
2. True Enough ($27)
A nine-time winner but we think his best days are behind them. Sixth behind Tevere last start, which isn’t Group 1 form.
3. Chase (Best Roughie – $27)
Punters get big odds for a runner coming off a placing behind Levante and La Crique.
It won’t be easy to turn that form into a win on Saturday, but at $27, he’s worth including to boost payouts.
4. The Mayor ($27)
Yet to win at the track or distance, so we think he’s looking for something easier.
His form in Australia was mixed, but since returning to NZ, he hasn’t been able to find his winning groove.
5. Asterix ($17)
The 2022 New Zealand Derby winner, who defeated La Crique on that occasion.
The four-year-old has mixed form since, including a win at Tauranga, and a 10th last start. We think he might be wanting much further.
We’re prepared to leave him out of selections and wait until he finds 2400m.
6. Campionessa ($5)
Campionessa won consecutive races at Riccarton and Te Rapa earlier this preparation, and as betting suggests, she’s good enough to win.
The five-year-old mare for Te Akau ran second behind Sharp ‘N’ Smart last start, who subsequently won the 2023 NZ Derby.
It’s good form and leaving her out would be a mistake.
7. La Crique (Best Each Way – $3)
A quality mare with six wins and five placings from 13 starts, including running second behind Levante at Group 1 level last start.
She is one of the best-performed runners in the field and she just hasn’t had much luck in the running.
She’s the biggest danger to Prowess, who doesn’t have the same exposed form as La Crique.
8. Prowess (Best Bet – $2.40)
She might not have been facing the same level as opposition as La Crique, but the three-year-old filly has been dominant.
The daughter of Prosir won by five lengths as a $1.20 favourite last start and she was still going through her gears at the post.
With 52kg on her back, she’s an exciting prospect in this race.
