Caulfield racing tips
—
Race 1. (11:50) Barastoc BM70 (1200m)
#12 – White Bear @ $6.00
White Bear looked good winning fresh up before being defeated in two subsequent runs.
However, we’re prepared to give the son of Shamexpress another chance against this level of opposition.
Take the drifting each-way odds.
Race 2. (12:20) Here for the Horses BM70 (1800m)
#8 – Moya Lass @ $5.50
Moya Lass got back to winning form at Sandown last time out, which is a good form guide.
The four-year-old mare has time to find cover from the draw, so that’s not a worry, and the money has come.
Getting 1.5kg off her back is another bonus.
Race 3. (12:55) Sheen Panel Service Vobis Gold Mile (1600m)
#1 – Pounding @ $2.30
It’s time for Pounding to show his best form after some struggling efforts.
He ran third fresh up behind Savannah Cloud, which is a tidy form guide for this level of racing.
He’s a seven-time winner with class on his side, so we’re happy to give him one more chance.
Race 4. (13:30) Blue Gum Farm Vobis Gold Distaff (1400m)
#10 – Naiconi @ $5.00
Naiconi is a professional winner with three wins and three placings from seven starts.
The four-year-old mare didn’t have much betting support fresh up when winning at Sandown, and punters get generous odds here.
Barrier three is ideal, so include her in selections.
Race 5. (14:05) Avenel Equine Hospital Vobis Heath (2000m)
#4 – Berkeley Square @ $2.40
Berkeley Square has the class edge over this field, hence the short odds from bookmakers.
The four-year-old is a four-time winner who has been facing tough fields, and he should find this easier.
We’re giving him one more chance to get back to winning form.
Race 6. (14:40) The IRT Vobis Platinum Guineas (1600m)
#2 – Modown @ $3.00
Modown won well at Pakenham two back before finishing off nicely at Bendigo.
The three-year-old gelding by Toronado was only three lengths behind the winner, and that’s a good form guide.
Punters get fair enough odds to include him in selections.
Race 7. (15:15) Yulong Vobis Gold Sprint (1200m)
#4 – Rey Magnerio @ $4.20
Rey Magnerio is always around the mark with six wins from 11 starts, so he’s the most dynamic runner in the field.
The four-year-old son of Magnus has winning form at Caulfield, so having track experience always helps around this course.
We expect him to be right around the mark as the loose favourite.
Race 8. (15:55) Vobis Platinum Showdown (1200m)
#8 – Bold Bastille @ $1.65
Class and potential is with Bold Bastille, who owns four wins from five starts.
The talented two-year-old filly bypassed the big age-group races and it’s paying off in Melbourne.
She has excellent barrier speed, so we expect her to settle on the pace and never give them a chance in the straight.
Race 9. (16:30) Cylinder Vobis Gold Dash (1200m)
#1 – Hedged @ $2.20
Hedged is the clear class runner of the field having finished second behind Joliestar at Randwick last start.
The three-year-old has a bright future with three wins from eight starts, and this is his race to lose on Saturday.
Take the odds before he shortens to around $1.90 on race day.
Race 10. (17:05) DCE Handicap (1400m)
#12 – Shuffle Dancer @ $12.00
Shuffle Dancer is better for two runs back from a spell, and a last-start fourth is a good sign.
The four-year-old mare by I Am Invincible was under a length from the winner, so she doesn’t need to improve too much.
Carrying 54kg makes the $12.00 look attractive.
