Caulfield horse racing tips
—
Race 1. (12:15) Victoria Gold Cup (2000m)
#3 – Muramasa @ $4.50
Muramasa needed the fresh up run when eighth, and we’re expecting a much better run on Saturday.
The four-year-old gelding by Deep Impact owns four wins from 12 starts, which is a terrific record, and we’re sticking with him.
We’re happy with the each-way odds available.
Race 2. (12:45) Vobis Gold Reef (1600m)
#1 – Firstoffury @ $2.60
Looking to go one better than his last start is Fistsoffury, who was no match for Another Wil.
The three-year-old gelding meets an easier field here, and the son of Dundeel could take advantage on Saturday.
Getting the inside draw could make all the difference.
Race 3. (13:20) Sharp Eit Solutions BM70 (1200m)
#9 – White Bear @ $2.90
White Bear was too good for them last time out at Benalla, and he can handle the rise in class.
The four-year-old son of Shamexpress won by five lengths as a $3.60 favourite, and getting $2.90 is a fair price from bookmakers.
He has more upside than most in this field.
Race 4. (13:55) Reward Hospitality Gold Comet (1000m)
#1 – Jigsaw @ $4.50
Jigsaw is a proven fresh up winner of three from five starts, and he knows how to hit the ground running.
The five-year-old son of Manhattan Rain is also a three-time winner at Caulfield, and he could get back to his best.
Jumping from barrier four adds to his appeal, so put him on top.
Race 5. (14:30) Quayclean Anniversary Vase (1600m)
#1 – Nugget @ $3.20
Nugget comes off a seventh behind Mr Brightside in the Futurity, so dropping in class should make all the difference.
The seven-year-old son of Siyouni is a six-time winner over the distance, and carrying 60kg is the only thing going against him.
The odds are worth taking against this level of opposition.
Race 6. (15:05) Rightsize Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1100m)
#2 – Bold Bastille @ $1.65
Bold Bastille couldn’t have been more impressive when winning by just under a length last time out.
The two-year-old filly by Brazen Beau kicked clear before holding on late, and that’s a good form guide.
We’re not surprised by the money coming for her after opening at $1.90.
Race 7. (15:40) Catanach’s Mystic Journey (1200m)
#11 – Peace Treaty @ $2.60
Seeking three consecutive wins is Peace Treaty, who won at Mornington before winning at The Valley.
The three-year-old filly couldn’t have been more impressive when winning by 3.3 lengths last time out, which was a talented display.
Carrying 52kg makes her tough to beat, and she has every chance with Jamie Kah in the saddle.
Race 8. (16:15) The Sharp EIT All-Star Mile (1600m) – GROUP 1
Read our full All-Star Mile preview here – including best bets, trifecta and first four picks!
Race 9. (16:55) Xtreme Freight Country Mile Series (1600m)
#7 – Dashing Duchess @ $5.00
Running at value odds is Dashing Duchess, who owns three wins from five starts.
She won well at Ballarat last time out when beating Hasseltoff, which should be a tidy form guide for this race.
It’s a wide-open field, but she could be the best of them.
Race 10. (17:35) Bel Esprit Stakes (1200m)
#9 – Rey Magnerio @ $3.30
Class is with Rey Magnerio, who is already a six-time winner from 10 career starts.
The four-year-old gelding won at Caulfield two starts back, and he wasn’t beaten very far when ninth last time out.
Getting in with a light weight helps his chances.
