Doomben horse racing tips
—
Race 1. (13:08) Kobayashi at Aquis Handicap (1200m)
#1 – Head Honcho @ $4
Head Honcho should have won two back when throwing the race away in the straight.
He then finished second behind Mishani Eclipse last time out, and it’s about time he crossed the line first.
It’s an even field, but the each-way odds appeal.
Race 2. (13:43) Road to Magic Millions on Sale Now (1050m)
#1 – Beast Mode @ $4.80
Beast Mode is a four-time winner from eight starts, including four placings, so there’s no reason to leave him out.
The four-year-old ran second at his only start at Doomben, and we thought he would be favourite to win.
We’re taking the current odds.
Race 3. (14:20) Cascade BM78 (1200m)
#8 – Latakia @ $3.10
Latakia was disappointing when running second as a $1.20 chance last time out, but punters get better odds now.
The Tony Gollan-trained mare broke maiden grades at Doomben by 4.5 lengths, which is the best form guide for this race.
The odds are worth taking before they shorten.
Race 4. (15:00) Lorraine Erhart BM80 (2000m)
#3 – Fifth Position @ $4.80
Fifth Position is struggling to win races, but the eight-year-old is getting close.
The Gollan-trained son of Dark Angel comes off a second placing at Eagle Farm, and he loves running over this distance.
It’s an even field, and he could take advantage.
Race 5. (15:40) Sky Racing Handicap (1200m)
#4 – Victory Win @ $1.85
Victory Win is gunning for three consecutive wins after scoring at Sunshine Coast.
The three-year-old gelding by Santos won by a length as a $1.45 chance, so punters get better odds this time around.
Getting 2kg off his back only helps his chances.
Race 6. (16:20) RTE Celebrating 20 Years C3 (1350m)
#4 – Pentito @ $7
Pentito is only a three-time winner from 26 starts, but his recent form has been excellent.
The five-year-old son of Spill the Beans is a two-time winner at Doomben, and money has come for him throughout the week.
Take the each-way odds before they shorten.
Race 7. (16:58) Ladbrokes Blackbook BM68 (1200m)
#8 – Amore Veloce @ $4.60
Robert Heathcote lines up the five-year-old mare with solid enough form to win.
The daughter of Love Conquers All owns three wins and four placings from 12 starts, including three wins at the distance.
Her most recent effort is good enough to win this.
Race 8. (17:37) Channel 7 Keith Noud Quality (1200m)
#10 – Zarastro @ $2
Zarastro has been excellent since arriving in Queensland, including three consecutive wins at Eagle Farm.
The five-year-old gelding by I Am Invincible owns five wins from 13 starts, and he ran second at his only start at Doomben.
Take the even money odds before he firms.
Race 9. (18:15) XXXX Handicap (1600m)
#1 – Tidal Creek @ $3.10
Tidal Creek showed good form when winning consecutive races earlier this preparation, which is a good form guide.
The five-year-old gelding didn’t fire at Eagle Farm last start, but he’s a Doomben specialist with plenty of upside.
Getting 2kg off his back helps.
Race 10. (18:45) BRC Ascot Sunsets Series BM78 (1350m)
#3 – Starzam @ $7
Starzam looked good when winning fresh up at Ipswich, and his confidence levels should be high.
The five-year-old son of Starspangledbanner owns two wins at Eagle Farm, and he gets all favours off the inside draw.
Punters should take the value odds available.
