Doomben horse racing tips & form
—
Race 1. (13:08) Mining & Energy Union Maiden (1350m)
#5 – Encoder
Encoder has yet to run better or worse than fourth, but with the spell under his belt, he could improve.
The Daniel Freedman-trained three-year-old ran fourth at Sunshine Coast last start, but he won a trial at Deagon to prepare.
That could be enough to see him win this race.
Race 2. (13:43) Adss BM65 (2220m)
#2 – Top Boy
Top Boy won well three back at Toowoomba before placing at Doomben and Eagle Farm in subsequent runs.
The Matt Currie-trained gelding was no match for Chernak last start, but that came in BM78 grade, so this is a big step down in class.
Getting the inside draw with 3kg off his back helps.
Race 3. (14:18) CFMEU Branch Maiden (1350m)
#1 – Azure Pride
Azure Pride is getting close to scoring an overdue win after notching eight placings from 15 starts.
The five-year-old son of Sizzling owns three second placings at Doomben, and getting the inside draw gives him every advantage.
Look for each-way value on race day.
Race 4. (14:53) Turner Freeman Lawyers C1 (1350m)
#8 – Fairway Choice
Fairway Choice started her career in fine style with a win at Murwillumbah, so she’s worth sticking with.
The four-year-old daughter of Spieth scored by a nose in a driving affair, which will only help her in the long run.
She gets 3kg off her back, which could be enough to see her win again.
Race 5. (15:28) Bert Cip C5 (1350m)
#6 – Always on Show
Always on Show owns two wins from three starts at Doomben, so she’s a course specialist.
The six-year-old mare by Showcasing is only a four-time winner overall, but some of her best form comes fresh up.
It’s a competitive field, and punters should get generous odds.
Race 6. (16:03) Queensland Unions BM68 (1200m)
#3 – Boom Torque
Boom Torque won his last three starts at Doomben, Ipswich, and Sunshine Coast, which shows his professionalism.
The four-year-old son of Spirit of Boom has made a terrific start to his career with three wins and a placing from six starts.
Despite drawing awkwardly in barrier eight and carrying 60kg, we’re putting him on top against this level of opposition.
Race 7. (16:38) Electrical Union Trades BM65 (1650m)
#1 – Early Thoughts
Early Thoughts ended last preparation with consecutive wins at Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, which is the best form guide for this race.
The five-year-old resumed from a spell with an eighth at Doomben, which came against a stronger field, so he should love this company.
Barrier 15 makes it tough, but look for any betting push.
