WFA Classic Form Guide & Tips
1. Prise De Fer (Best Roughie – $13) Bet @ betr
Prise De Fer looked good when scoring consecutive wins earlier this preparation and he’s classy at best.
The seven-year-old owns 11 wins and he finished second in the Group 1 Zabeel Classic two back, so we’re putting him in the mix at value odds.
2. Perfect Scenario ($20) Bet @ betr
Another Te Akau runner who has upside, but we’re unsure if he’s good enough to win at this level.
It’s his first start at Otaki and we’re prepared to leave him out of calculations.
3. True Enough ($27) Bet @ betr
Not running well enough and punters should be getting better odds than $27. He should be paying around $40, so we can’t entertain his chances, especially after running 11th last start.
4. Lightning Jack ($23) Bet @ betr
There has been some specking for Lightning Jack, who ran third last time out behind He’s a Doozy and Sharp ‘N’ Smart.
That form has been franked since and he could add some value for first four bets. The conditions should be right up his alley.
5. Chase ($35) Bet @ betr
Two placings from six attempts at Otaki and we don’t think he’ll be scoring his first win at the track on Saturday.
His recent form hasn’t been good enough, especially to beat some of the quality types in this race over the mile.
6. Levante (Best Bet – $2.50) Bet @ betr
Levante is a class runner with 11 wins from 20 starts, including placing at Group 1 level behind another Kiwi in Australia.
The six-year-old mare won at Trentham two back before placing behind Imperatriz, but the conditions at Otaki suit her best.
She will settle off the pace from barrier two and come with a big late effort, so take the $2.50.
7. La Crique ($2.90) Bet @ betr
She won by 3.8 lengths at Matamata three back before finishing fourth at Flemington behind Icebath.
The four-year-old mare might have needed the fresh up run when fifth at Te Rapa, which was disappointing at face value.
She’s too good to leave out, as the odds suggest.
8. Pride of Aspen ($27) Bet @ betr
A two-time winner at Otaki, but they haven’t come in this grade. A nice type but wait for her to race in something easier.
9. Wild Night (Best Each Way – $5) Bet @ betr
Wild Night ran better than we expected in his last two starts, including placings behind Sharp ‘N’ Smart and Prowess.
The three-year-old gets the weight advantage with 55kg and he’s a five-time winner from eight starts, so we’re happy to take the $5.
He’s a nice type in the making and the stable is running hot.
