Happy Valley horse racing tips
—
Race 1. (21:30) Australia Handicap (1200m)
#4 – Valhalla
Valhalla took a long time to win a race, but now with two wins from his last five starts, he’s on the way up.
The six-year-old son of Ocean Park comes off a two-length win at Happy Valley as a $1.90 chance, so that’s excellent form.
We’re putting him on top.
Race 2. (22:00) France Handicap (1650m)
#3 – Happy Jai Jai
Happy Jai Jai is taking his time to win another race, but after three consecutive placings, he’s heading in the right direction.
The seven-year-old son of Savabeel has been close at each-way odds, and punters should get a similar price here.
Having Zac Purton in the saddle helps his chances.
Race 3. (22:30) Germany Handicap (1650m)
#7 – Turin Warrior
Looking to cap off consecutive second placings is Turin Warrior, who is long overdue a winning performance.
The six-year-old son of Not a Single Doubt was a short margin behind the winner last start, and he’s much better than a one-win type.
He adds to Purton’s good book of rides.
Race 4. (23:10) Longines International Jockeys’ Championship (1000m)
#11 – Oversubscribed
Oversubscribed gets the services of Australia’s Rachel King, and he could go one better than last time out.
The eight-year-old has plenty of experience to call on, and punters usually get value odds on race night.
With 54kg on his back, we’re putting him in the mix.
Race 5. (23:40) Longines International Jockeys’ Championship (1650m)
#1 – Wide Blue Yonder
Looking to score points in the jockeys’ championship is James McDonald, who partners Wide Blue Yonder.
The five-year-old son of Power scored an upset win at odds of $35 last time out, but he’ll be at much shorter odds now.
Having McDonald riding is a bonus.
Race 6. (00:10) Great Britain Handicap (1200m)
#2 – Wood on Fire
Wood on Fire capped off consecutive placings with a win at Happy Valley, which is tidy form.
The eight-year-old is a seven-time winner overall, and having Karis Teetan in the saddle adds to his appeal.
The Kiwi-bred runner should run at each-way odds, which is worth taking.
Race 7. (00:40) Longines International Jockeys’ Championship (1650m)
#11 – D Star
D Star has mixed form this preparation, but he also owns a win and a placing.
The four-year-old son of Darci Brahma is a two-time winner at Happy Valley, including a nose win in September.
His effort for second last time out is good enough to figure in the finish.
Race 8. (01:10) Longines International Jockeys’ Championship (1200m)
#5 – Tomadachi Kokoroe
Tomadachi Kokoroe couldn’t have been more impressive when winning by 3.8 lengths two starts back.
The five-year-old gelding by Written Tycoon owns seven wins from 18 starts, including a win at Happy Valley.
His best form came overseas, but he’s good enough to win this race.
Race 9. (01:55) Japan Handicap (1800m)
#5 – Rise from Ashes
Rising from Ashes is gunning for three consecutive wins after scoring at Sha Tin last time out.
The six-year-old son of Shamus Award won by 2.2 lengths at Happy Valley fresh up, which is an excellent form guide.
He should get a nice run in transit, so include at the odds.
