Cranbourne
—
Race 1. (18:15) Silks Cranbourne Maiden (1600m)
#2 – Choquant @ $2.05 – Bet @ Picklebet
Choquant has been knocking on the door of a win after three second placings from his first four starts.
The four-year-old son of Shocking comes off a placing at Sandown and we expect that form to stack up nicely this season.
We’re not surprised by the odds available.
Race 3. (19:15) Mystify INXS Tribute Maiden (1400m)
#4 – Lavish Thinker @ $2.25 – Bet @ Picklebet
Lavish Thinker is a three-year-old gelding who comes off consecutive second placings and he could return a winner.
The Phillip Stokes-trained son of So You Think ran second at Bendigo last start behind Desarmer and he should appreciate the firmer conditions.
It could pay to follow any positive betting moves.
Race 5. (20:15) Security 123 BM64 (1400m)
#5 – Aeecee Supreme @ $5 – Bet @ Picklebet
Value is with Aeecee Supreme, who is better than what she has shown in two runs this preparation.
The four-year-old daughter of Toronado did too much wrong in the run before weakening out of it late, but we’re sticking with her.
She runs at value odds and the small field suits.
Race 6. (20:45) NZB Karaka BM64 (2025m)
#1 – Zoutellus @ $2.10 – Bet @ Picklebet
Zoutellus comes off an overdue win at Stony Creek and it came by 5.5 lengths, so he scored convincingly.
The five-year-old son of Zoustar has yet to win from two starts at Cranbourne but he has been close on both occasions.
Punters have to take short odds but they’re worth taking.

Ballina

Race 1. (13:35) XXXX Gold Country Boosted C1 (1000m)
#1 – Panuara Boy @ $2.90 – Bet @ Picklebet
Panuara Boy won well on debut at Moree by a half-length before placing in consecutive runs at Toowoomba and Coffs Harbour.
The four-year-old didn’t find the rise in distance last start and after opening at $2.90, he has been specked to win.
He only needs luck from the draw to score.
Race 3. (14:45) Bert & Gwladys Memorial Maiden (1590m)
#5 – Jimmy Giggle @ $2.05 – Bet @ Picklebet
Jimmy Giggle ran third on debut at Toowoomba before placing on this track last start, so the form checks out.
The son of Written Tycoon is bred to break maidens soon and he won’t get a better chance than on Friday.
Take the short odds as they could shorten on race day.
Race 5. (16:05) Douse Fire Maiden (1300m)
#2 – Nano Star @ $4.80 – Bet @ Picklebet
Nano Star has been right around the mark throughout her career, including six placings from 11 starts.
She comes off a fifth at Eagle Farm behind some nice maiden types, so that form checks out and punters get value each-way odds.
There’s no reason to leave her out of calculations.
Race 7. (16:15) Cherry St Group Ballina Cup (1590m)
#5 – Spangler @ $4 – Bet @ Picklebet
Spangler is already a two-time winner this preparation and the Kris Lees-trained runner has more upside than most here.
The five-year-old owns three wins from seven starts and he placed at Randwick last start, which is exceptional form for this race.
We thought he would be at shorter odds.
