Pakenham racing tips

Race 1. (16:45) Magic Millions National Sale Maiden (1600m)

#5 – Saltburn @ $3.50

Saltburn has been threatening to win a race after posting four placings from five starts, including a second placing at Geelong last time out.

The three-year-old son of Puissance de Lune gets all favours off an inside draw, and punters get better odds than expected.

He could settle handy and kick clear to score.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 2. (17:15) RW Advisory Group Maiden (1000m)

#1 – Botanical Boy @ $3.40

Botanical Boy is on debut for the Freedman stable, and he has looked good in recent trials.

The three-year-old son of Super Seth won a trial at Wodonga before placing at Caulfield, which is a good form guide.

Barrier four is ideal and money has started to come for him.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (17:45) Ryan Cracknell Maiden (1200m)

#4 – Neverenoughlego @ $3.50

Neverenoughlego has faced tough fields to date, so dropping to this company should be right up his alley.

The two-year-old colt by Ole Kirk is bred to show early speed, and he owns a placing at Ballarat and two fourths at The Valley and Caulfield.

The drop in class is enough to see him exit maidens.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 4. (18:15) Sheen Panel Service Maiden (1200m)

#6 – Nepela @ $3.30

Nepela is on debut for James Cummings, and it always pays to take note of a well-backed Cummings runner.

The three-year-old son of Exceed and Excel comes off two solid jumpouts at Flemington, and he also owns a trial placing at Hawkesbury.

After opening at $4, strong money has come for him.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 5. (18:45) Eliza Anders C1 (1100m)

#6 – Diamond Indaruf @ $6.00

Gunning for back-to-back wins is Diamond Indaruf, who won at Bendigo by 2.3 lengths to break maiden grades.

The four-year-old mare by Magnus paid $5.50 when winning, and although there is more depth to this field, she should be tough to beat.

Include her in horse racing picks at the each-way odds.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (19:15) Community Bank Drouin & District BM64 (1200m)

#7 – Jakivy @ $3.20

Gunning for three wins on the bounce is Jakivy, who won both starts at Pakenham with strong finishes.

The four-year-old son of Toronado owns two wins and four placings at Pakenham, so he’s a course specialist, which always helps.

$3.20 is a fair price from bookmakers for the favourite.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 7. (19:45) Bon Hoysted Apprentices Cup BM64 (1400m)

#12 – Lowlands @ $3.90

Lowlands gets her chance to score an overdue win after posting placings at Pakenham and Warrnambool.

The Ciaron Maher-trained mare won early in her career, and with four runs under her belt this prep, she should be fit and ready to fire.

Dropping to 55kg should give her every chance to win.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 8. (20:15) Armour Consulting Handicap (1600m)

#2 – Lygon Street Luigi @ $7.50

Punters get value each-way odds for Lygon Street Luigi, who doesn’t know how to run a bad race after posting four consecutive placings.

The five-year-old son of Australia has yet to race at Pakenham, but he was only a nose behind the winner last start, so he’s threatening to win.

Given the odds, we’re happy to include him in picks.

Stake: 1 Unit
