Pakenham racing tips

Race 1. (16:45) Sarah Takes on Lisa Maiden (1600m)

#4 – Harrata @ $7.50

Harrata wasn’t too far away from the winner when finishing fourth on debut at Pakenham, and that’s a tidy form guide for this race.

The three-year-old colt by Pierata didn’t have all favours in the run, so it was better than it looked, and punters get nice odds.

It’s an open field, so take the value.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (17:15) Eliza Takes on Ryan Maiden (1400m)

#1 – Bayou Music @ $2.50

Bayou Music ran second at Mornington on debut and punters should expect him to break maidens soon.

The James Cummings-trained colt was only a half-length from the winner, and getting barrier four adds to his appeal for this run.

Take the $2.50 before late money comes for him.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 3. (17:45) Luke W Takes on Suzanne BM64 (2500m)

#9 – The Storyteller @ $4.20

The Storyteller landed some good bets at Werribee and he’s good enough to score back-to-back wins on Thursday.

He owns only two wins from 22 starts, but he’s relishing conditions, which should see him win many more races in the winter.

Punters get each-way odds, which are worth including for a small stake.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 4. (18:15) Lachlan Takes on Kirsten Maiden (1000m)

#9 – Yolo @ $2.80

It hasn’t been the easiest start to racing for Yolo, who ran behind Open Secret and Rivellino in Sydney before going for something easier at Canterbury.

This is another drop in class, and the Ciaron Maher-trained colt shouldn’t take long to break maidens in this grade.

Take the odds before more money comes, as he should put this field away.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 5. (18:45) Sammy Takes on Justin BM64 (1200m)

#2 – Immortal Star @ $6.50

There is good value with Immortal Star, who hasn’t won this prep, but it’s only a matter of time.

The Danny O’Brien-trained filly owns two wins and two placings from 13 starts, so her record is better than her recent form suggests.

She doesn’t need to improve much to beat this field, so she’s worth sticking with.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (19:15) Asher Takes on Stephanie C1 (1200m)

#4 – Thunder Award @ $2.45

Money has come for Thunder Award, who owns a win and six second placings from just 11 career starts.

He’s a consistent four-year-old gelding, who ran close at Caulfield last start, and that’s a good form guide for racing at Pakenham.

After opening at $3.20, strong bets have been placed on him to win.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 7. (19:45) Nathan Takes on Luke S BM70 (1000m)

#11 – Trembles @ $3.00

Looking for back-to-back wins is Trembles, who broke maidens with a dominant four-length victory at Mornington.

The Freedman-trained filly paid $1.40 on that occasion, so based on that win, getting $3 is a good price from bookmakers.

She only needs cover from out wide to put them away again.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 8. (20:15) All Stars Take on Sportsbet BM58 (1400m)

#6 – Thunder Hawk @ $6.50

Thunder Hawk comes off a win at Cranbourne, and running at Pakenham shouldn’t be too much different for the four-year-old mare.

She might have taken seven starts to break her duck, but she had been threatening to win, and she might kick on with it now.

She’s another each-way runner with hope on Thursday.

Stake: 1.5 Units
