Best Bet

Collingwood typically makes a good start to the year, so we’re surprised by the $1.98 odds available from bookmakers.

The Magpies have an experienced roster, including Josh Daicos, Scott Pendlebury, and Jamie Elliott, and although they’re a bit light in the goal scorers department, defence and ruck work could be enough to get the job done.

We haven’t been impressed by St Kilda over the last few years, and although they have more notable scorers in Jack Higgins and Cooper Sharman, they could struggle to get the ball into the forward 50 to make the most of it.

It’s a tight call, but Collingwood gets our vote at a better price.

It should be a tight defensive battle, so under 167.5 points is worth including in picks this week.

Collingwood has won the first half in their last four games against St Kilda, and the betting trend could continue Sunday.

They have enough experience to limit St Kilda’s production, and it could be a nervy start for the favourites, who know they need to produce something early in the year.
