Breeders’ Cup Turf Form Guide & Tips
1. Arklow ($15) Bet @ Sportsbet
Arklow is coming off a win at Kentucky Downs but he would need to improve on that effort to beat this field.
The Brad Cox-trained six-year-old goes well at this distance with three wins, but he’s a touch below the best Europeans.
2. Magical (Best Bet – $3.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
A classy type and clearly our top pick. The Aidan O’Brien-trained ran third behind Addeybb last start in the Group 1 Champion Stakes, and that form is red-hot.
It finished behind Enable in this race last year, and given Enable won’t be running, it could be Magical’s time to shine.
$3.50 is a fair price for the champion runner.
3. Tarnawa (Best Each Way – $4.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
Tarnawa comes into this race having won in France and we are liking its chances of winning. The Dermot Weld-trained four-year-old has strong form guides throughout its career, so he goes on our ticket.
It is good to see plenty of money with bookmakers, which gives us confidence that its connections are expecting a top effort.
4. Mehdaayih ($21) Bet @ Sportsbet
She isn’t going well enough to enter our calculations. $21 is a touch short for a runner that hasn’t won at her last five starts.
She is classy at best, but this is a hot field and we would need $41 to entertain her chances.
5. Donjah ($51) Bet @ Sportsbet
A well-travelled mare that finished fourth at Baden-Baden last time out. She needed to show us more than that, and bookmakers aren’t confident either.
Drawing barrier five helps but that’s where the positives end.
6. Lord North ($8.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
Punters should always respect this stable and although well-beaten last start, it had some excuses in the run.
His form prior included three consecutive wins and if he brings that form to the table, he could score an upset win.
Having Frankie Dettori in the saddle helps.
7. United (Best Roughie – $13) Bet @ Sportsbet
A winner of four of his last five starts, there is every reason to include United on your Breeders’ Cup Turf ticket.
The five-year-old has form in the US, and although European form stacks up better, the familiar surroundings will help.
Include at generous odds.
8. Red King ($51) Bet @ Sportsbet
Nothing wrong with his form but this is a serious rise in class. He would need to find a few lengths to beat the champions in this field.
9. Channel Maker ($13) Bet @ Sportsbet
Back-to-back wins coming into the Breeders’ Cup Turf and his most recent win came at Grade 1 level.
That win came over the likes of Laccario and Arklow, so he goes ahead of some here. However, we can’t have him in selections.
10. Mogul ($4.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
From the powerful O’Brien stable and Mogul hit top gear when winning the Juddmonte Grand Prix at Longchamp last start.
That is often a good form guide for a race like this and we wouldn’t be surprised if he started close to favouritism.
He goes into the mix at each-way odds.
