Chater Cup Form Guide & Tips

1. Exultant (Best Bet – $2.80) Bet @ Sportsbet

Exultant comes off a fifth behind Loves Only You in the QEII Cup and that should be a good form guide for the Chater Cup.

He is a son of Teofilo that has won just about everything in Hong Kong and we believe he’s got one more good win in him.

Tony Cruz lines up the seven-year-old that hasn’t won since winning this race last year, but the defending champ has class on his side.

2. Glorious Dragon ($7.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

Not the most consistent runner going around but dangerous on his day. The six-year-old won at Sha Tin two back before finishing sixth in the QEII.

He finished just behind Exultant, but he’s not consistent enough to include in selections. We would put him in first-four and trifecta bets, but he should be paying longer odds.

3. Columbus County ($7.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

He finished 3.4 lengths behind Butterfield last start and he’s got a few lengths to find to win.

The son of Redwood scored a win to start his campaign at Happy Valley, but has yet to win in six subsequent starts.

He did run third in the Hong Kong Vase in December, so we wouldn’t completely rule him out. However, he is a touch short in the betting as well.

4. Russian Emperor ($5) Bet @ Sportsbet

The four-year-old son of Galileo ran second in the Hong Kong Classic Cup before placing in the Derby, which is solid form.

It’s age-group form and he was found out behind Butterfield last start, but a win wouldn’t be a big surprise.

He is short in the betting at $5 and he enters trifecta picks.

5. Butterfield (Best Each Way – $5.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

Butterfield comes off a strong win in the Queen Mother Memorial Cup, and although at Group 3 level, he defeated many in this field.

The five-year-old was an upset winner at $31, but it was a confidence-building win and he’s good enough to go back-to-back.

Barrier two is ideal and punters should expect another good run.

6. Panfield ($7.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

A winner three back at Sha Tin and although beaten in two runs since, he wasn’t far behind Butterfield last time out.

He was 2.3 lengths behind and having another run at this distance is ideal, so he has upside and shouldn’t be discounted.

Having Karis Teetan in the saddle helps so keep him safe.

7. Time Warp ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet

A former top liner that is completely out of form. It would be a huge form reversal if he got up, but we can’t see it happening.

Bookmakers have his odds spot on.

8. Packing Waltham (Best Roughie – $12) Bet @ Sportsbet

Comes off a fourth placing behind Butterfield and that’s solid form. He ran well enough in the Derby to warrant attention and punters get value odds.

He hasn’t won in Hong Kong since arriving from France, but this is his best chance to scoop the big prize.
