Doomben horse racing tips & form
—
Race 1. (12:20) Tab Venue Maiden Handicap (1350m)
#1 – Lebanese Trader – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Kiwi runner finished third in his Australian debut at Doomben and he faces a much easier field on Wednesday.
He ran third behind Derani and Millward and that form has since stacked up on Saturday, so he could break maiden grades in style.
Tony Pike has a good record in Queensland and the Kiwi could get the chocolates.
Race 2. (13:00) Mullins Lawyers Maiden (1660m)
#3 – Stocked and Loaded – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Stuart Kendrick-trained three-year-old comes off a tidy effort at Sunshine Coast and we expect that form to hold steady.
He owns three placings from eight starts and this isn’t the strongest field, so he doesn’t have to beat much.
Expect each-way odds from bookmakers.
Race 3. (13:40) Alcyone Hotel & Residences Maiden (1660m)
#8 – She’s an Eagle – Bet @ Sportsbet
Tony Gollan lines up the three-year-old that owns five placings from seven starts, so she is knocking on the door.
The daughter of Spirit of Boom was a short margin behind the winner at Sunshine Coast last start, so the potential is there and it’s only a matter of time.
Expect bookies to have her firm in markets.
Race 4. (14:18) Spirit of Boom C1 Handicap (1110m)
#3 – So Clever – Bet @ Sportsbet
Looking to remain unbeaten is So Clever, which scored a 3.3-length win at Gold Coast on debut.
The Moore-trained four-year-old did it comfortably and that’s a good sign. He is a well-bred son of Choisir that was originally in Hong Kong, but returned after a poor trial effort in 2019.
The 3kg claimer is ideal and he only needs luck from the wide barrier.
Race 5. (14:53) Sky Racing C5 Handicap (1660m)
#2 – Puntara – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Kiwi didn’t handle the level of opposition at Eagle Farm when finishing last behind Ayrton, but this is much easier.
He is a three-year-old that owns four wins from eight starts, and he is capable of bouncing back and producing the goods.
Punters should get value odds on race day.
Race 6. (15:28) XXXX Dry C3 Handicap (1200m)
#13 – Shanjomi – Bet @ Sportsbet
Shanjomi started her career in fine style when winning her first two starts. She followed it up with a third placing at Doomben, and although well-beaten, she could return in fine style.
The Matt Dunn-trained daughter of Dream Ahead looked solid in a recent trial at Doomben and it should top her off nicely.
Watch for a market lead.
Race 7. (16:03) Mount Franklin C3 Handicap (1200m)
#3 – Brabham – Bet @ Sportsbet
The four-year-old gelding owns three wins and two second placings from seven starts, so he must be considered here.
He ended his last campaign with back-to-back wins, including a win at Doomben by 3.3 lengths. There is nothing wrong with that form and he finds form early in his campaign.
It’s a strong field, but put Bradham on top.
Race 8. (16:34) Country Music & Opera BM72 (1350m)
#7 – McCovey Cove – Bet @ Sportsbet
The David Vandyke-trained four-year-old has yet to finish worse than second in five starts, so he is a consistent type.
He owns two wins at Doomben and most of his form comes fresh up, so he is sparingly raced and with good reason.
Drawing barrier 11 doesn’t help, but he has time to find cover and work in to the race late.
