Pakenham Cup Day horse racing tips

Race 1. (12:55) John Duff & Co BM70 (1000m)

#10 – That Girl @ $2.65 – Bet Now

That Girl was a terrific winner on debut at Morphettville and that form has been well and truly franked.

She finished 1.8 lengths in front of Garner, which has subsequently won a nice race during the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

Trainer Phillip Stokes has been patient with the three-year-old and it could pay off at Pakenham on Saturday.

Race 2. (13:30) Momentum Gaming BM70 (1600m)

#2 – Write Your Name @ $3.50 – Bet Now

Write Your Name was a winner two back at Bendigo and then ran a nice effort for third at Sandown.

The Archie Alexander-trained four-year-old owns three wins from 11 starts and also has five placings to his name.

Getting the inside draw is going to make him tough to hold out and jockey Jordan Childs should give it the sweet trip.

Race 3. (14:05) Fulmen Park BM78 (1400m)

#2 – Lady of Crebilly @ $18 – Bet Now

Lady of Crebilly needs to improve on a recent outing at Ballarat but she’s a past winner second up so has a chance here.

The Stokes-trained mare owns four wins and five placings from 18 starts, so she has some good performances to her name.

Bookmakers are offering a good price of $18 and that’s worth taking.

Race 4. (14:40) Iron Jack Lagers BM78 (2000m)

#9 – Midas Prince @ $6 – Bet Now

$6 is a good price for a runner which has yet to finish outside the first three home this season.

The Aaron Purcell-trained five-year-old owns two wins and three placings this campaign, which is a fairly good record.

He fought on gamely behind a nice type at Sandown last time out and with Brett Prebble in the saddle, expect another tidy run.

Race 5. (15:20) Hanson Handicap (1600m)

#1 – Odeon @ $3.10 – Bet Now

Odeon has some class about him and that was a nice effort to run fifth at Sandown when fresh up.

The experience six-year-old owns six wins and eight placings from 34 starts, so he has the experience edge over most of this field.

At his top level, he’s good enough to beat most Saturday fields. However, he hasn’t won for awhile now, so punters will need to take on trust.

Good enough to take the odds on offer.

Race 6. (16:00) Schweppes David Burke Memorial Handicap (1200m)

#8 – Easy Beast @ $5.50 – Bet Now

Easy Beast owns some good speed on his day and he’s good enough to turn around a last-start disappointment.

The five-year-old looked much better when running second at Morphettville two back and he will appreciate getting in with the light weight.

54kg on his back with Dwayne Dunn riding should take him close and the odds are worth the risk.

Race 7. (16:40) Sportsbet Pakenham Cup (2500m)

#8 – Secret Blaze @ $2.45 – Bet Now

Secret Blaze is in blazing form with consecutive wins coming into this. The McEvoy-trained gelding has relished the rise in distance nicely and the 2500m holds no fears.

The four-year-old scored by a length at Morphettville over 1600m before stepping up over 2040m at Moonee Valley and winning over a nice field.

That form should stack up well for this and having only 54kg on the back is ideal.

Looks the obvious winning chance.

Race 8. (17:20) Vobis Gold Bullion (1400m)

#4 – Yulong January @ $5 – Bet Now

Yulong January is looking to score back-to-back wins after scoring at Ballarat against a field of 15 last time out.

The four-year-old scored convincingly by three lengths and there’s no reason why that form should stack up well for this.

Drawing barrier 10 doesn’t help but he has shown good tactical speed to date and jockey Ben Melham might press forward.

Race 9. (17:55) Kangaroo Race BM78 (1000m)

#12 – Propelle @ $3.60 – Bet Now

Propelle was always going to need the fresh up run but she should be well-suited now.

The four-year-old mare is a three-time winner from only 11 starts and that’s a nice record to date.

Carrying 55.5kg on her back and although beaten last start, she hit the line nicely enough and should be fitter for this run.
