A-League Elimination Finals Expert Tips & Predictions

The elimination finals are upon us in the 2025-26 A-League season, with six teams remaining in the hunt for glory.

Newcastle Jets have wrapped up the league leaders shield and they along with second place Adelaide United will be watching with interest over the coming weekend.

Four teams will be battling it out for a place in the last four here, with Auckland FC taking on Melbourne City and Sydney FC travelling for Melbourne Victory, in two bumper ties.

The stakes are sky high across both games and with so much on the line, it promises to make for fascinating viewing.

It has been hugely contrasting seasons for both Auckland FC and Melbourne City but they meet here, with a chance to land themselves a spot in the semi-finals. Auckland have been right amongst it all year to win the league, along with the Newcastle Jets but a late fade, including five games without a win, has left them having to play another game here. They made all the running last season, to ultimately lose out to City in the Grand Final and history does look as if it is beginning to repeat itself. For Melbourne City, this does feel like a free hit, having galvanised themselves late in the campaign, just to make the top six. They will have been targeting this fixture for a while and should be bang up for it, despite losing to Adelaide United last week. This one could go either way but with Auckland FC struggling and Melbourne City hitting a patch of form, the visitors could emerge victorious here.

Having finished fourth and fifth respectively in the final league table, with just one point separating them, this truly could go either way. Victory have been hugely impressive over the second half of the season, picking up results consistently and becoming a real force to be reckoned with. Sydney FC have done the same, without perhaps as much fanfare and they have the fire power to frighten any A-League defence. Fine margins will define this one and with Melbourne Victory perhaps having the big names for the occasion, they could step up and be counted here and secure a big win in the elimination finals.
