A-League Round 3 Expert Tips & Predictions

With a pair of games played in the 2025/26 A-League campaign, it is champions Melbourne City who top the pile once more.

City, along with Auckland FC and Wellington Phoenix are the unbeaten sides in the division and they look to be the early season pace setters already.

Down at the bottom of the pile, Perth Glory, Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney Wanderers are the three winless teams and they have work to do if they are to climb away from wooden spoon trouble.

It remains early days in the new season though and here are our A-League tips for the next round of 2025/26 fixtures:

Melbourne City are the team to beat with just two games played and they will be looking to keep the chasing pack at bay here at Brisbane Roar. Inconsistency has been an issue for Roar over the past two seasons and with a win and a loss from their opening two games, they look to have a job on their hands to crack the playoffs this term. City have bagged four points from two games and with momentum behind them, they should register another important win here.

Two sides without a win and in a spot of bother meet here, as Perth Glory host Melbourne Victory. Glory didn’t have too much expectation surrounding them this term but with just a single point bagged from two games, they do look to be in scrap at the bottom of the pile. Melbourne Victory however were expecting better returns at this stage in the campaign and have work to do early on this term. On paper, this should be a good win for Victory, but they could have to work hard for it.

Plenty of expectation sits on the shoulders of Auckland FC this term and they will be firm favourites here against Adelaide United. With 4 points on the board from two games played, Auckland will be happy enough with their returns at this point in the season and they need to keep the points tally ticking over. Adelaide United have three points from their first two games played and they have shown signs of being a decent team this term. This one will be tighter than the odds suggest but Auckland could pick up an important home win.

With one win and one loss each from their opening two games played, both the Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC will be cautiously optimistic for the season ahead. The Jets are a decent side, and they tend to play their best stuff at home. Sydney FC are another accomplished outfit who shouldn’t fear this assignment, especially as they look to play on the counter. Goals look to be on the agenda here and this one could end up as a draw.

Two teams that were not expected to feature too much this season meet here, as Central Coast take on Wellington Phoenix. Mariners have three points from their opening two games, and they will be looking to utilise home advantage in this one. Wellington Phoenix meanwhile are unbeaten from their first two games and how they would love to build momentum here. This should be another close one, with the draw perhaps the best way to go.

It has been a tough start to the season for the Western Sydney Wanderers, but they will be desperate to get going here against Macarthur FC. Three points from two games for Macarthur FC is a decent enough start, for a side that are looking to crack the top six this term. Meanwhile, Western Sydney Wanderers are winless from their opening two games, and they have work to do in order to climb out of wooden spoon contention. Both sides may end up cutting their losses and settling for a point here.
