Melbourne vs. Sydney Predictions
—
Best Bet
Melbourne has turned the corner after a terrible start to the year with four wins from its last five games, including a tough win over Brisbane last week.
Proving the Demons can beat some of the best teams in the competition is important, and their only recent loss came to Hawthorn. We’re prepared to forgive that effort, especially against a Sydney team not playing to their 2024 standard.
They come off a win over Carlton, but with recent losses to Essendon, Gold Coast and Port Adelaide, their form is tough to recommend. With both teams owning a 4-6 record, and momentum and home field advantage on the side of Melbourne, we’re backing Melbourne at the generous $2 offering.

Same Game Multi
Punters get value odds for our same game multi, which is boosted by the $2 odds for Kysaiah Pickett to score 2+ goals. He has kicked two goals in each of his last two games, and when he’s firing on all cylinders, Melbourne is a different beast.
We’re happy to back him to continue his good play, and we also expect Sydney’s Hayden McLean to score 2+ goals. His form has tapered off a touch with only three goals from his last three games, but his goal scorer prowess was on display prior with five goals from two games.
It’s typically a low-scoring affair between Melbourne and Sydney. They scored 151 points last year, which followed a 133-point showing in 2023. There hasn’t been much improvement in the offensive departments, so it should be a tough defensive battle at the MCG.

Best Value Bet
This is an important game for Melbourne, and a loss could make it tough to make the playoffs. Therefore, we’re picking them to measure up and come out with authority on Sunday.
The hardest part of cashing a wire-to-wire bet is the first quarter, but if the likes of Pickett and Bayley Fritsch get involved early, they could put points on the board from the outset.
$3.40 is well worth including in picks as a value bet.
