The Golden Eagle runs this Saturday at Randwick for big money, and the Group 1 1500m race features some of the best thoroughbreds in Australia. Betting markets are dominated by Sheza Alibi, who is the odds-on favourite, and she’ll be tough to hold out.

Golden Eagle Runner-By-Runner Guide

He was beaten last time out, but certainly not disgraced. It was another tough run, and we expect him to settle on the pace and kick strongly.

The $7.50 odds are good for a proven Group 1 winner, who should be fighting out the finish.  

Second last time out when just finishing ahead of Beiwacht. That was a good effort, and we’re not leaving him out, but he will need early luck from the draw.

If that luck comes, he should figure in the finish at nice odds.

A tricky runner to line up here. In good hands with Chris Waller, and he wasn’t suited at the weights in the Epsom Handicap.

Could easily bounce back, and he’s a quality type on his day. We expect his odds to drift a touch from his current offering.

He ran well fresh up but offered little last time out. Always a dangerous runner to leave out, but he’s not running at his best this season.

Heavily backed in the Epsom Handicap when running sixth. Not nearly as suited at the weights here, so he’s unlikely to figure in the finish.

He has done well to make this field, but he didn’t fire last start, and we can’t see him improving enough to figure in the finish.

Our Golden Eagle tips are happy to include Decorum, who finished fourth behind Apocalyptic last time out.

He only needs the right run in transit to let down with a good turn-of-foot, and he’s not being given enough respect in betting markets.

A Waller-trained runner who is often well-backed to win, and after opening at $31, there has been some money for him.

His last two runs have been solid in defeat, and with Zac Lloyd riding, he should get every chance from the barrier.

He’s worth including in first four picks at the odds.

He hasn’t shown much since his two-year-old campaign, and we can’t see that changing here.

Only two fair runs this preparation, and we give him little to no chance of winning.

The Kiwi ran well fresh up for second, but showed little last time out. Doesn’t seem up to this level.

Nothing wrong with his form this season, but he hasn’t been racing against quick types, and they should have too much speed for him here.

Only fair last time out, and he should drift to triple-figure odds.

A former European who adds some intrigue, and the international runners have a good record in the Golden Eagle.

He’s now with Ciaron Maher, who can’t do much wrong, and it will be great to see Saffie Osborne in the saddle.

Tough from the draw, but he’s worth including in picks.

She had her colours lowered when running second behind Land Legend last start, but the race wasn’t run to suit, and she did well just to run second.

We’re not surprised to see her at an odd-son price, and although we would have liked around $2.20, she is clearly the horse to beat.

Coming back to Sydney only helps her chances of winning.

Great seeing her back to her best last time out when finishing over the top of Beiwacht and Skyhook. Nothing wrong with that form, and the penny might have dropped now.

A solid fresh up run, but she hasn’t won for some time, and that’s unlikely to change.
