Big Bash League Week 5 Predictions
—
Monday 8/1/24
7:15pm Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers @ Giants Stadium
It hasn’t been a happy year for the Thunder, losing two of their last three games and sitting in seventh position on the BBL ladder.
With only one win on their record, they need to start playing better cricket, but facing the Perth Scorchers isn’t ideal on Monday.
Despite losing their last game, the Scorchers have four wins from six games. They are the better team, so take them to win.
Betting tip: Perth Scorchers @ $1.58
Tuesday 9/1/24
7:40pm Adelaide Strikers vs Hobart Hurricanes @ Adelaide Oval
The Strikers put pay to a losing streak with a win last week, which could give them confidence against the Hurricanes.
Bookmakers have the Strikers narrowly favoured to win at $1.75, but the Hurricanes, despite losing their last game, looked good prior with three wins from four games.
Playing at home is always good for the Strikers, so we’re happy to take them to win.
Betting tip: Adelaide Strikers @ $1.75
Wednesday 10/1/24
7:40pm Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers @ Gabba
The Scorchers play their second game in three days, which could work against them on Wednesday.
They’re also playing the best team in the competition, who have six wins from eight games, and they haven’t lost for a few weeks.
Given that form, it’s tough to look past the Heat, who get the advantage of playing at home in front of a packed crowd.
Betting tip: Brisbane Heat
Thursday 11/1/24
7:15pm Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers @ Blundstone Arena
The odds for this game largely depend on how they perform on Tuesday, but we’re picking the Hurricanes.
Even if they lose the first meeting, we expect them to fire back at home, and we have been impressed with their recent form.
We’re happy to take the odds when they are released.
Betting tip: Hobart Hurricanes
Friday 12/1/24
7:15pm Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder @ SCG
The Sydney Sixers turned their form around with a win last week, which should give them confidence.
They had lost consecutive games and had two no results, which didn’t help their cause. However, they’re playing much better than the Thunder.
We’re not sure what’s going wrong with the Thunder, but we don’t want to back them in the Sydney rivalry.
Betting tip: Sydney Sixers
Saturday 13/1/24
4:15pm Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat @ Optus Stadium
The Scorchers play their third game of the week, and their second against the Heat. We picked the Heat to win the first meeting, but beating the Scorchers in Perth is another kettle of fish.
Given home pitch advantage, we’re happy to include the Scorchers in our Big Bash picks, and punters should get a value price.
Betting tip: Scorchers
7:30pm Renegades vs Melbourne Stars @ Marvel Stadium
We’re not sure why we expected something good from the Renegades this year, but we have been bitterly disappointed.
Meanwhile, the Stars were meant to finish at the bottom of the table, but after posting four wins from their last five games, they are flying.
We’re taking the Stars to win the battle of Melbourne.
Betting tip: Melbourne Stars @ $1.57
Sunday 14/1/24
7:15pm Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers @ Manuka Oval
We are going to give the Thunder one last chance to show some form.
They play against the Strikers, who must do a lot of travel in Week 5, and that could catch up with them.
If the Thunder can’t win this game, they’re never going to win. Therefore, take the home side to get it done.
Betting tip: Sydney Thunder
