Australia vs Wales Tips

Saturday 13/7/24

7:45pm Australia vs Wales @ Melbourne Stadium

Australia was too good for Wales in the first test, winning 25-16 and securing 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

Joe Schmit’s new team did the job, and although it was close at times, they never looked like being beaten in the second half.

Focus now moves to Melbourne Stadium for Game 2, and we think it will be a similar result. Wales showed enough ability to keep the game close, and that hasn’t been lost on bookmakers, who have Wales at +10.5.

It’s the same line we tipped for the opening game, and although there was only a point in it, we’re happy to back them again.

Wales is a team that could get better with more games under its belt. The same can be said for the Wallabies, but Wales was the team that had to travel.

Now settled in Australia, they should be better in the second game, so we’re happy with the current line, which has been backed into $1.86.

It’s important to take the double-digit line, as many rugby games are decided by 10 points, so jump on it before more betting support comes.

We would like to see Wales attack the Australian defence a bit better than they did last Saturday. Wales scored only one try, and stayed in the game with three penalty kicks.

The try was a penalty try, so technically they never crossed the line for a five pointer. More attacking play is needed to cover the spread, especially with Australia scoring three tries.

If Wales can manage to spread the ball, holes in the Wallabies defence should open up.

Betting tip: Wales +10.5 @ $1.86

Australia vs Wales Exotic Tips

We expect Wales to come out in the first half with an aggressive mindset, which could give them the halftime lead.

They were only three points behind Australia in the first test, and getting $3.45 to lead at halftime is too good to pass up.

The safer option is to back them with the points start of +4.5 ($1.92), which we also recommend. However, it’s rare to get such a good head-to-head price, so lock in Wales to lead after 40 minutes.

We’re also backing Filipo Daugunu to score a try for Australia and Rio Dyer to score for Wales. Both are try scoring threats, and punters get value odds, especially with Dyer.

The 24-year-old is good enough to score plenty of tries on the wing, providing he gets the ball. If Wales attack the midfield like we expect, that should open up the wings to score tries.

Take the odds with Daugunu and Dyer to cross the white strap.

Betting tip: Wales to lead at halftime @ $3.45
